Utah was the 45th state to be admitted into the Union on Saturday, January 4, 1896.

Utah covers 84,904 square miles with a population of 2,233,169 people.  Utah is 13th largest state and the 34th most populous.  The name Utah is from the Ute Indians. Kings peak is Utah's highest point at 13,528 feet above sea level. Rainbow Bridge, Nature's abstract sculpture carved of solid sandstone, is the world's largest natural-rock span. When you travel to Lake Powell National Recreation Area, you'll see scenery that closely resembles the Grand Canyon National Park. Lake Powell is one of the most expansive and intricate man made lakes, and was created by the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam in 1963. This caused the Colorado River to fill the numerous red rock canyons along with hundreds narrow "finger canyons" with 50 - 400 feet of water. Lake Powell National Recreation Area allows visitors the opportunity to explore these tremendously fascinating landscapes, all on a body of water.

Utah is a great vacationland with 11,000 mi of fishing streams and 147,000 acres of lakes and reservoirs. Among the many tourist attractions are Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, and Zion National Parks, Cedar Breaks, Dinosaur, Hovenweep, Natural Bridges, Rainbow Bridge, Timpanogos Cave, and Grand Staircase (Escalante) National Monuments; the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City; and Monument Valley. Salt Lake City hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics.
