Menomonie is the starting point for a beautiful 14-mile bike ride along the Red Cedar State Trail. This limestone-surfaced trail runs along the Red Cedar River from Menomonie to the Chippewa River, where it connects with the Chippewa River Trail. Keep watch for eagles, herons and other birds as you pass sandstone bluffs, prairies, wetlands and wooded areas. There are picnic areas along the trail, and a visitor's center located along Highway 29 in Menomonie. The Menomonie area also offers miles of country roads fit for biking.
The Menomonie area offers many hiking trails. Check out the 706 wooded, hilly acres at Hoffman Hills State Recreational Area just outside of Menomonie. The park offers 9 miles of trails of varying difficulty. Climb the 60 foot high observation tower to get an unparalleled view of the countryside surrounding Menomonie. Birds and other wildlife abound. Be sure to check out the 15 acres of prairie restoration, and hike the 1-mile wetland trail. There is also excellent skiing and snowshoeing. This recreational area offers 8 miles of trails groomed exclusively for cross-country skiing in both traditional-stride and skate-skiing. The terrain ranges from easy to difficult. Hoffman Hills offers pine and hardwood forest scenery and great views.
Menomonie is also a progressive community, with a thriving industrial base that includes 3M, Ford Motor Company, Wal-Mart Distribution Center, ConAgra Foods - Swiss Miss, Cardinal FG, Andersen Windows, Phillips Plastics Corporation, and several other industrial facilities. We are privileged to have a state-of-the-art hospital and medical center (which are part of the Mayo Health System), a beautiful library overlooking the shores of Lake Menomin, an excellent K-12 school system, and the Chippewa Valley Technical College.
