Menasha is centrally located in the Fox Cities, approximately 100 miles north of Milwaukee and 30 miles south of Green Bay. The Fox River flows immediately adjacent to Menasha's downtown area, and the community is bordered on the west and southeast by Little Lake Butte des Morts and Lake Winnebago, respectively. Menasha's name is derived from a native Ho-Chunk word variously translated as "settlement on the island" or "thorn."
