There are numerous good mountain bike rides amid the beautiful mountain scenery of the Markagunt Plateau east of Cedar City. Riding is generally available from June to October. The town of Brian Head serves as a base for most mountain bikers coming to the area.
It is the home of Southern Utah University (SUU). This school has about six thousand students and offers the students and community a number of cultural and educational opportunities. And, if you enjoy watching football, basketball, etc., SUU is a NCAA Division I team. It hosts the Utah Shakespearean Festival and the Utah Summer Games. SUU is a comprehensive regional university with five academic colleges.
