Katy is a city located in Fort Bend, Harris, and Waller Counties in the state of Texas, within the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan areaKaty, Texas. Living in Katy offers a small town atmosphere with the advantages of a major city nearby.

Katy is named for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (commonly referred to as the "K-T Railroad", now a part of Union Pacific) that ran through Katy in the 19th century. Katy was once known as Cane Island. The name is derived from Cane Island Creek which runs just west of downtown.

The City of Katy was formally incorporated in 1945. Katy has always been a traditional family style community; however, it also played a major role as a rail hub, a rice farming and agricultural center, and one of the largest gas fields in this part of Texas.

A highlight of the Katy community is the annual Katy Rice Harvest Festival held every October. The festival really demonstrates small town America with its craft booths, carnival and local entertainment for family enjoyment. Come to Katy. You'll be glad you did!

Many of the original buildings from Katy's past are still visible as you drive through town. From being a rice growing community and a main stop of the MKT Railroad, Katy has strong roots to the past. Also located in the area is the Jersey Meadow Golf Complex; a great golf course with one of the largest driving ranges in the state. This course is famous for all of the amenities it offers, plus some of the longest holes of any course in the county.
