Grapevine is near State Highway 121 some nineteen miles northeast of Fort Worth and nineteen miles northwest of Dallas in the northeastern corner of Tarrant County. The site began to be settled in the middle to late 1840s and early 1850s.
Grapevine is one of the oldest settlements in North Texas, originating under the Lone Star Flag in 1844, one year before statehood. The settlement's namesake was the tart, wild mustang grapes which grew so abundantly in the area. Today Grapevine celebrates its history with an extensive restoration project, recognized by the National Register of Historic Places, and an annual GrapeFest, attended by over 85,000 citizens and visitors.
