Garland is on State highways 66 and 78 and the Missouri Pacific and Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railroads, fifteen miles northeast of downtown Dallas in northeastern Dallas County. Duck Creek runs through the city, and Lake Ray Hubbard lies on its eastern border. 

The city of Garland offers the atmosphere of a small town plus all the conveniences of a larger metropolitan city. Located 15 miles northeast of downtown Dallas, Garland is the 9th largest city in Texas, and the 91st largest in the United States.

Firewheel Town Center is conveniently located at the intersection of State Highway 190 (President George Bush Turnpike) and State Highway 78 in northern Garland, Texas. Part of Dallas’s rapidly growing northeastern suburbs, Garland has been recognized as the metroplex’s fastest-growing retail corridor. This market will become even more accessible with the completion of the President George Bush Turnpike which will extend east and connect to Interstate 30. Construction has begun and is scheduled to open in 2011.

Garland has a strong industrial base with more than 4,500 businesses. Raytheon is one of Garland's major employers. Garland offers private golf courses as well as one of the best public golf courses in Texas (Firewheel Golf Course), tennis, swimming, and other team sports. The city's frontage on Lake Ray Hubbard provides boating, fishing, and water sports, and other area lakes are within close driving distance. Garland has 69 public parks
