Further down the trail from Cuthburt, Autzen stadium is also accessible. The Defazio footbridge connects both sides of the Willamette and is a prime location for bicyclists. Canoes can be rented during the summer and one can catch a variety of wildlife here especially of the bird variety. Many other amusements are accessible through this park including the science factory, a dog park, a BMX bike racing path, community gardens and a rock garden.
With the University of Oregon and Lane Community College, Eugene is also a center for higher learning -- and top-notch athletic events from football at Autzen Stadium to track and field at historic Hayward Field. Once you get past the hills and the trees, you will notice the Willamette River that runs right through the middle of Eugene. Why would they put a river right in the middle of town? You might ask. Well, they didn't. Nature did and it was there a long time before Eugene was. The Willamette River is very popular for boating and fishing, and at some points along the river there are some strong rapids.
