Columbus, Ohio

Columbus is an enormous and exciting city and capital of Ohio (OH), in Franklin County. The state's largest city, Columbus is named after Christopher Columbus and lies next to the Scioto River. Columbus, Ohio

Famous for being home to the vast Ohio State University (OSU), America's second-largest university with 60,000 students, other notable attractions in Columbus include the German Village, full of restored 19-century houses, cobbled streets and Queen Anne-style architecture, the spectacular Ohio Statehouse capitol building, and a number of impressive museums.

There are two main rivers that travel through Columbus.  The Scioto River enters the city from the northwest and runs south through downtown.  The Olentangy State Scenic River runs north/south just east of the Scioto.  The two rivers join in downtown Columbus immediately south of the Route 315 and I-670 interchange.  Located north of the city, the O'Shaughnessy Reservoir, Alum Creek Lake, and Hoover Reservoir provide drinking water and flood control for the area.  Columbus is on the very northwestern edge of the Appalachian Mountain Plateau and, as a result, parts of northeastern and southeastern Columbus have rolling hills, bluffs, and ravines.  Both High Banks and Blendon Woods metro parks in Columbus are good places to see this geology.  Not to mention, that they are pretty cool parks to visit.

In addition to The Ohio State Buckeyes, we are host to four professional teams including The Columbus Clippers (a AAA affiliate of the Washington Nationals), The Columbus Crew (MLS), The Columbus Blue Jackets (NHL), and the Columbus Destroyers (AFL).

Columbus hosts special events throughout the year, including Red, White & Boom!, the Columbus Jazz & RibFest, and the Columbus Arts Festival. In addition to these entertaining events, Columbus is also a popular site for conventions. In fact, in 1998 the Convention Center saw over 1 million visitors!
