East Lansing, Michigan, was incorporated as a city in 1907, but its true beginnings date back more than fifty years earlier, when the state legislature established a college for the teaching of scientific agriculture on the banks of the Red Cedar River, in the barely developed hinterland a few miles east of the new, wood-frame Capitol. The two entities have grown in tandem ever since, and are now a beautiful college town with tree-lined neighborhoods and an excellent public school system, and a world-class university with fifteen degree-granting colleges educating over 44,000 students.

Whether you want to see a movie, view an art exhibit, or attend a Broadway show, East Lansing has something to spark everyone's interest. With a number of performing arts centers, museums, parks, and gardens, East Lansing is a small town with big city appeal.

East Lansing is the cultural and recreational center of mid-Michigan. Big Ten sports thrill fans and campus cultural offerings enrich audiences. The City produces numerous large scale street festivals, outdoor concerts and special events for all ages to enjoy. Twenty-six City parks ranging from neighborhood play/picnic areas to the outstanding Family Aquatic Center and the national competition level Soccer Park and Softball Park assure there will find plenty to do.
