Situated in Androscoggin County with its sister City, Lewiston, a stones throw away across the river, Auburn is conveniently located in southwest Maine, 32 miles north of Portland and 135 miles from Boston.  Land wise, Auburn is one of the largest cities in the east covering 66.83 square miles. AuburAuburn, Mainen is Maine’s fourth largest City.

Geographically our location is a wonderful bonus with a mere 45-minute drive to pristine snow covered mountains or breathtaking coastal Maine, depending on which direction one travels.  (If you are new to traveling in Maine, you will be happy to learn that this is 45-minutes of hassle free, traffic free, peaceful, scenic driving; a rare commodity in today’s world.).   As an additional convenience, the Portland International Jet Port and the Downeaster (Amtrak to Boston) are also about 45-minutes away, although when one heads south the traffic picks up just a bit.   

The majority of shopping in Auburn can be found on and around Center Street (Route 4).  This is the location of the Auburn Mall, which consists of two anchor stores and a variety of specialty shops and kiosks.  In and around the Mall area, are several free standing plazas and large chain stores including many retail giants.

Not too much further down Center Street, heading toward our downtown area, there are a variety of small businesses scattered about offering a multitude of products and services.  Items such as gas, hair care, party goods, video rentals, automotive services, clothing, jewelry and collectibles can all be found in and around the businesses on Route 4.  You will find that most of these businesses are owned and operated by tried and true Maine entrepreneurs; people with solid American values like hard work, careful planning and good judgment.

Finding a hearty meal in Auburn is an easy task.  We have a wide variety of restaurants including elite bakeries and deli’s, home spun family establishments with ole’ fashioned cookingAuburn, Maine, quality Chinese and Thai cuisine and ever popular chains.  

Are you looking to have some fun?  Auburn has a 10-screen movie theater showing the latest and greatest that Hollywood has to offer, a full size roller skating rink, Joker’s - a kid’s party and indoor play place and several popular nightclubs including our very own microbrewery.  In addition, for those who seek culture, we are home to the Community Little Theatre and an active participant in L/A Arts.   Additional top-notch organizations just a ten minute drive accross the bridge include:  the Franco American Heritage Center, The Public Theatre, Museum L/A and Bates College which is home to an annual Dance Festival.

Our summer seasonal events include the extremely popular Great Falls Balloon Festival, Liberty Festival, Music in the Parks and Festival Plaza outdoor events, community band, swimming in several lakes, golf, mini-golf, walking trails and other outdoor sports.  Our comfortable temperatures and ample amounts of oxygen (yes, we have lots of trees) all make Auburn a very pleasant place to visit in the dog days of summer.  

If you’re a winter enthusiast, we’ve got plenty of that too; after all, this is MAINE.  Downhill skiing and snow boarding are located in town at Lost Valley. In addition, there are plenty of area options for cross country skiing, in and outdoor ice skating, old fashioned sledding and tubing, snow mobiling and great family events such as the Auburn Winter Fest. 

Spring visitors can enjoy Maine Maple Sunday and there are few family activities that are as wholesome as apple or pumpkin picking on a working farm during the peak fall foliage season. 

Our community takes the education, health and safety of its youngest citizens very seriously.

Auburn has 11 public schools with our own high school and middle school.  In addition, there are several private schools; preschools and quality child care centers.

Complimenting the educational resources in our community is an active Parks and Recreation Department that goes the extra mile to help keep kids and their parents active and healthy.

Higher education is offered by Central Maine Community College; a real student asset that provides convenience, a supportive learning environment and affordability with a wide variety of two-year degree programs.

While we do not house a hospital ourselves, there are two located directly across the river in our sister City, Lewiston. Central Maine Medical Center features a “First Care Center” (for small emergencies like bumps and sprains), a full size Emergency Department with trauma team at hand, and when necessary, a Lifeflight service to Portland’s Maine Medial Center.  In addition, St. Mary's Regional Medical Center has many medical options including an extensive full service behavioral health care division.
