Wilmette, Illinois, in Cook county, is 2 miles NW of Evanston, Illinois (center to center) and 15 miles N of Chicago, Illinois. The village is located in the Chicago metropolitan area. Wilmette is considered a bedroom community in the affluent North Shore district. In 2007, Wilmette was ranked as the seventh best place to raise children in the U.S., according to Business Week.
The community was named after settler Antoine Ouilmette, whose Indian wife was granted land here.
