Wilmette, Illinois, in Cook county, is 2 miles NW of Evanston, Illinois (center to center) and 15 miles N of Chicago, Illinois. The village is located in the Chicago metropolitan area. Wilmette is considered a bedroom community in the affluent North Shore district. The community was named after settler Antoine Ouilmette, whose Indian wife was granted land here.

Wilmette is really a quite beautiful city, full classy homes and expensive cars. The lakefront is gorgeous, sporting the magnificent Gillson Park, which contains a beautiful beach, a fun playground (complete with a turtle that sprays water!) and lush, green lawns.

The 60 acres that make up Gillson Park provide a combination of green spaces, picnic areas and beach. The park is home to courts for volleyball, basketball and volleyball. The paved paths are ideal for bike trips around the harbor.

Serving more than 3,500 students in grades K - 8, Wilmette Public School District 39 includes a significant portion of Wilmette and a small portion of adjacent Glenview.

Children in grades K-4 attend one of four existing neighborhood elementary schools: Central School, Harper School, McKenzie School, or Romona School.

Students in grades 5 and 6 attend Highcrest Middle School. Students in grades 7 and 8 attend Wilmette Junior High School. Average class size ranges from 22 to 24 students, with the highest levels at the older grades.

Student test scores consistently reflect achievement well above state and national norms. Graduates of Wilmette Public Schools District 39 attend the highly acclaimed New Trier High School.
