Elmhurst is an attractive established community with a perfect mixture of commerce and quiet suburban living. Recognized as a Tree City, U.S.A., Elmhurst was the 14th community in the state to be named an Illinois Certified City. The community has three industrial parks housing more than 1,900 businesses, and is home to a variety of cultural facilities that provide family entertainment. The Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art features fine gems and gemstone carvings dating back to the Ming Dynasty. The Elmhurst Historical Museum occupies an 1892 mansion, and exhibits numerous books, photographs, newspapers, clothing, toys and other objects that describe Elmhurst's rich history. The Elmhurst College Arboretum is an accredited arboretum of woody plants and is registered as a national arboretum. It displays more than 1,000 plants of 270 species and varieties. The Elmhurst Fine Arts Museum is a new addition to the Cultural Arts Development Commission. School District 205, a kindergarten to 12th grade district, serves Elmhurst. High school students attend York Community High School. Elmhurst is also home to Elmhurst College.
