The Town of Telluride is a Home Rule Municipalitythat is the county seat of San Miguel County in the southwestern portion of the State of Colorado.The town is a former silver mining camp on the San Miguel River in the western San Juan Mountains.. Known as one of the most beautiful commutes in the world, Telluride's gondola provides free transportation between Telluride and Mountain Village in 13 minutes. Station Telluride is located at the south end of Oak Street, Station St. Sophia (mid-mountain) is atop Coonskin Ridge and Station Mountain Village is located in the Mountain Village core. During the day, disembark mid-mountain at Station St. Sophia for hiking, biking, and spectacular views of the San Juan and La Sal mountains. By night take in the views of the stars, the twinkling lights of town, and the moon coming up over the mountain tops.
Bridalveils Falls is a large two-pronged waterfall located east of the town of Telluride.
Bridalveil Falls is Colorado's highest cascade, with a 365 foot drop. The hydroelectric power plant at the top of the falls was built in the late 1800's to provide electricity to mining operations in the mountains above Telluride. The building is now registered as a National Historic Landmark, but is on private property.
