Aurora was founded in 1891, which at that time was called the town Fletcher. In 1907, the town changed its name to Aurora and later adopted a City seal designed by Albert Christen, which bears five stars representing home, church, school, business and industry; a rising sun indicating the rising community sharing its light and making its voice heard throughout the Rocky Mountains. There are 12 miles of roads and 35 miles of multi-use trails opened to bikers, horseback riders, joggers, walkers and runners. You can camp there, fly a remote controlled aircraft there, picnic, bird watch, fish, cross country ski if you wanted to. A large number of animals roam the land like the ground squirrel, mule deer, eastern cottontail rabbit, weasel, coyote, muskrat, coyote, raccoon and beaver. There is a family shooting range if you need to get the family ready for hunting season, as more and more families will go back to those days when the cheapest way to get meat for the table was to go hunting. With the rise in food prices, grains and other commodities, the idea of hunting to supplement your table is bringing a lot of folks back to the wilds. The winter months seen to be the best time for hiking and nature lovers since it isn't so busy at that time. Walking through the beautiful lands will take you through grasslands, marshes, prairies and groves of cottonwood trees.
