Sedona is in Northern Arizona . It is in both Coconino and Yavapai County. The Coconino National Forest surrounds the town.

Sedona is a wonderful town to view spectacular redrock formations and to take in nature's beauty. The term "Red Rock Country" was given to the town because of the colorful rock formations bordering Sedona.  The Red Rocks form a breathtaking backdrop for everything from spiritual pursuits to the myriad of incredible hiking and mountain biking trails. Among the rock formations is one that closely resemblesthe character "Snoopy" (from the popular Peanuts comic strip) laying on top of his doghouse. Another nearby rock is said to resemble "Lucy", also from the Peanuts gang. It began as a small agricultural town.

Sedona has become a center for traditional and contemporary arts and offers a variety of galleries, boutiques and specialty shops. It is an upscale retirement and tourism community, because it is the jumping off place for tours of the Red Rocks region.

Estimated population in July 2005: 11,220. Sedona covers 18.6 square miles. It sits at an elevation of 4,326 feet above sea level.

Climate

Sedona, AZ climate is mild during summer when temperatures tend to be in the 60's and very cold during winter when temperatures tend to be in the 20's.

The warmest month of the year is July with an average maximum temperature of 80.30 degrees Fahrenheit, while the coldest month of the year is January with an average minimum temperature of 8.40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Temperature variations between night and day tend to be relatively big during summer with a difference that can reach 36 degrees Fahrenheit, and relatively big during winter with an average difference of 33 degrees Fahrenheit.

The annual average precipitation at Sedona is 23.27 Inches. Rainfall in is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. The wettest month of the year is August with an average rainfall of 3.10 Inches.
