Avondale, Arizona, in Maricopa county, is 11 miles SW of Glendale, Arizona and 15 miles W of Phoenix, Arizona. The city is included in the Phoenix - Mesa metropolitan area. Avondale is the home of Phoenix International Raceway, a famous auto racing facility.

In the late 19th century, Avondale was a pit stop on the main thoroughfare for folks racing to the ‘Golden Coast’.  Today, this vibrant city is a premier destination for International NASCAR racing, festivals, shopping, dining, recreation, education, family living, employment and business location. 

Avondale has not lost sight of the importance of supporting its community with city parks, recreational areas and several nature trails, which are found throughout the city. Avondale is unique as a desert city in that it has the confluence of three rivers that traverse the city – the Gila, Agua Fria, and Salt Rivers. The city has developed an open space system to convey floodwaters.

Two outstanding community amenities are the Estrella Mountain Community College with an annual enrollment of over 7,000 students, and the Phoenix International Raceway, which is host to NASCAR. Over 400,000 race fans annually visit making attendance at PIR equal to three Super Bowls. Other community amenities include seven golf courses, several ballparks, libraries, a senior center, tennis courts and picnic armadas.
