Eagle River is a subdivision in the Municipality of Anchorage situated on the Eagle River for which it is named, between Fort Richardson and Chugach State Park in the Chugach Mountains.

Popular local activities include rafting, hiking, skiing and exploring the mountains. One of the more popular local hikes is up Mount Baldy, which overlooks the town. The historic Crow Pass Trail, which runs 26 miles from the Eagle River Nature Center and ends near the town of Girdwood, remains a favorite backpacking trip. There is no fishing in the river, but anglers do gather at Fire and Mirror Lakes.

Business development is stable, with several large businesses (Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Taco Bell, and Arby's) and a variety of smaller businesses along the Old Glenn Highway. This area is better known as "Main Street". Many goods and services which formerly were only available in Anchorage are now accessible to residents of Eagle River. In addition, several major banks and credit unions have branches in town.

Knik Little League has over 800 kids in this area ages 5-18 that play softball and baseball. Mustang Hockey Association offers programs for kids ages 5-18, from the learn to skate programs all the way to the Midgets. Chugiak High School offers swimming lessons, family swimming etc... Harry McDonald Rec Center features ice skating lessons and is available for various hockey games.

Housing prices range from $120,000 to $700,000  for single-family homes, $85,000 to $190,000 for condominiums, and $120K to $160,000 for zero-lot lines (a zero-lot line is like a duplex, but you own your own side and have a yard).
